HLI EDI Committee
The HLI EDI Committee is a volunteer-led committee that aims to provide education and increase awareness around EDI-related issues. The committee provides resources, direction and guidance on EDI policies, and organizes events and workshops mainly focusing on issues faced by equity-deserving groups.
Vision: We create initiatives to establish lasting meaningful change to make the academic workplace environment more equitable, diverse, and inclusive for faculty, staff, and students at HLI.
Mission: The HLI EDI Committee defines and implements educational programs to empower minority members within HLI and enhance recruitment and retention of diverse researchers.

Basak Sahin (she/they)
Co-Chair, EDI CommitteeMPCL Technician Basak Sahin is passionate about enhancing the working environment for everyone at the HLI.
As Co-Chair of the EDI Committee, she has played a key role in 1) increasing knowledge of the barriers faced by underrepresented groups in research, 2) identifying ways to address these barriers, and, 3) ensuring equitable access to HLI facilities and inclusion of researchers of various backgrounds and identities.

Tao Sun
Co-Chair, EDI CommitteeDr. Tao Sun recently joined the HLI as a Data Analyst in the group of Dr. Ying Wang.
He is proud to support EDI-focused initiatives as Co-Chair of the EDI Committee, helping to ensure that every individual feels respected, represented, and empowered.
