Message from the Director
It is inspiring to look back at the remarkable accomplishments of the laboratory since 1977. We have grown from a small pulmonary research laboratory lead by Drs. Jim Hogg and Peter Paré to a rich multidisciplinary environment with over 30 Principal Investigators and more than 250 faculty, staff and trainees. The Centre is built on a legacy of basic and translational work conducted by a diversity of researchers who have drawn on a progressively more sophisticated array of tools and techniques in order to answer tough and meaningful questions.
Our investigators and their teams are driven to solve the complexity of common heart, lung, and blood vessel diseases. Such diseases are increasing in prevalence, leading morbidity and mortality rates and costs in Canada and worldwide and imposing the largest of economic burdens on our healthcare system. The James Hogg Research Centre (JHRC) continues to combine critical query with technology, creativity with persistence, and theory with practice to find improved preventives and treatments for inflammatory and infectious heart, lung and blood vessel diseases. We are committed to discovering the contribution of genetics and the environment and their interactions to disease, and to harnessing this knowledge to ameliorate the suffering.
All members of the JHRC, part of the Institute for Heart + Lung Health and our many partners share a commitment to finding solutions, and are driven by a central vision of excellence. Success in our mission will only be possible with the collaborative efforts of scientists, clinicians, policy makers and patients working across sectors and jurisdictions throughout British Columbia, Canada and worldwide.
